Guiding Principles

THINK GLOBAL. ACT LOCAL.

An often-used phrase that summarizes what motivates my practice of architecture.

Climate change is a very real and grave threat to our planet. I believe that I have a social responsibility to use my knowledge and experience to mitigate environmental harm.

I find it rewarding to design a home for a family that will enjoy the comfort, durability, and fiscal benefits of living in a thoughtfully designed house. That reward is compounded in knowing that my work will enhance their ability to live a socially sustainable life.

GUIDING PRINCIPLES

  • Build consensus, share knowledge, cooperate and collaborate.

  • Strive to find inspiration in all things.

  • Find the extra in ordinary.

  • Design is an iterative process. Life can be, too.

  • Understand the past. Design buildings for today.

  • Always seek mastery of my craft - architecture.

  • Forever learn.

  • Ask “What is enough?”

  • Good clients make good buildings.

INSPIRATIONAL QUOTES ABOVE MY DESK

  • “When I let go of what I am, I become what I might be.” Lao Tzu.

  • “A building is a struggle, not a miracle.” Louis Kahn.

  • “I had three chairs in my house; one for solitude, two for friendship, three for society.” Henry David Thoreau.

  • “Verum Ipsum Factum” (we only know what we make). Giambattista Vico.
